Our Mission

Mountain City Club has prided itself on meeting the diverse business and social needs of its members for more than 135 years.  The Club seeks to be a backdrop for forming lasting business connections that advance the general welfare of society and ensure that every member and guest feels welcomed and valued in this esteemed environment.

History

1889

Mountain City Club was founded. During this time no official meeting place was on record until the first clubhouse on the corner of 7th & Cherry Street.

1900

Due to financial struggles, the club had to sell its' meeting place on 7th and Cherry Street. With no plan of dismantling, the club leased The old First National Bank Building on Broad Street.

1904

Mountain City Club built a permanent residence on Chestnut Street, designed by Charles E. Bearden.

1907

After the passing of the original Mountain City Club President; Benjamin Franklin Rees, Crawford Johnson of Birmingham was announced as the new President.

1920's

After World War One the club saw growth in membership, the number of members reached 400. This growth led to the long-debated decision to add space, a telephone, and a parking lot.


During this time Robert Craven Richarb became Club President, and in 1927 the infamous Major Neyland became a member.

1939

Mountain City Club Celebrated its' 50th Anniversary.

1940's

During the 1940's the club remained in good financial standing. With WWII occurring in Europe the club waived member fees for those overseas. At this time the club president became Murray Raney.

1950's

In the1950's the Mountain City Club added prominent members including Scott L. Probasco Jr., Frank Kollmansperger, and many more. Parking was a major point of focus due to the boom of the automobile. The club president during this time was Herman Bohr.

1975

In 1975 the club moved into their new home located on the corner of 8th and Chestnut Street. The club will remain at this location until 2024.

1989

Mountain City Club Celebrates 100 years of tradition.

2024

2024 Was a year of change and promising endeavors. The club is officially settling into its new location; located on W 8th Street, above The Gilman Grill. Excited to begin this new adventure, the Mountain City Club welcomes professionals in the Chattanooga area to become a member.
